When we first met twenty-three years ago, one of the first things she shared with him wasn't a digital gallery, but a single, brittle piece of paper.

It was a photo of a five-year-old girl in Ho Chi Minh City. It had been carried in wallets and moved across oceans. It was faded, worn, and silent—the only photograph she had of her entire childhood. Growing up in extreme poverty, photography wasn’t a way to capture a birthday; it was a luxury her family couldn't afford.

That one image wasn’t just a picture. It was her identity. It was proof that her story started somewhere.
